Redevelopment Plans

The City's Comprehensive Plan identifies certain sections of the City as "Redevelopment Areas". These areas are generally characterized by older structures, vacant lots, inappropriate mixes of land uses and substandard infrastructure. The Comprehensive Plan calls for the preparation of redevelopment plans to address each of the areas. The Planning and Zoning Department is the lead agency in the preparation and implementation of those plans.

PARTICIPATION IN PLANNING ORGANIZATIONS AND OTHER ASSOCIATIONS

The Department participates in several Planning Organizations such as:

  • IPARC (Inter-Local Plan Amendment Review Committee), which provides Countywide inter-local review of Comprehensive Plan Amendments;

  • MPO (Metropolitan Planning Organization), which reviews regional traffic issues;

  • Palm Beach Countywide Beaches and Shores Council;

  • Florida Shore and Beach Preservation Association; and,

  • City Representative to the State Division of Historical Resources.

In addition the Department reviews and comments on Developments of Regional Impact (DRI's) under consideration by adjacent jurisdictions which are monitored by the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council.

WORK PROGRAM

The Planning and Zoning Department has prepared a WORK PROGRAM of projects and studies that will be undertaken in the next two to three years. Most of the projects are the result of needs identified in the City's Comprehensive Plan. Others have been directed to the department from the City Manager, the City Commission, or other City Departments. The Work Program provides a brief description of each project and an estimated time frame for its completion. Copies are available upon request.

The Planning and Zoning staff encourages the public to call on us for assistance regarding all land use questions or comments. The Planning and Zoning Department's staff may be reached at the following telephone number (561) 243-7040.
