The Delray Beach Police Department Citizens Police Academy is a Law Enforcement education program developed to provide local citizens and business owners/operators a behind-the-scenes look at police work and the criminal justice system.
The Delray Beach Police Department offers six different Citizens Police Academies, each unique in its approach to public education:
Our English version of the Citizens Police Academy is a 12-week program. Participants have the opportunity to experience the many facets of police work from the officer's point of view. This program includes classroom and field exercises on Patrol Procedures and Deployment, Criminal Investigations, Firearms Training and Safety, Special Operations(Traffic Enforcement, Canine, SWAT, etc.), VICE, Internal Affairs, Community Related Programs and much more.
Our Creole and Spanish versions of the Citizens Police Academy are 10-week programs covering most of the areas presented in our English Academy, but with Creole or Spanish translations.
Our Senior Citizens Police Academy is a 4-week program geared specifically for our senior residents, 55 years of age and older. The academy includes presentations on Crime Prevention, Elder Abuse and Neglect, and Quality of Life Issues involving seniors.
Our Business Representatives Police Academy is a 1-day program offering quick crime prevention tips to time-pressured representatives from our businesses. Our Academy covers such topics as CPTED(Crime Prevention through Environmental Design); internal theft/embezzlement; shoplifting and the business owners' rights; business owner networking, etc.
Our Advanced Citizens Police Academy is a 4-week program which puts together all of what the graduates of our Citizens Police Academy learned, and takes them through an actual case showing how all the facets of the Police Department worked together to solve the case. This Academy is only open to graduates of the English, Creole or Spanish Citizens Police Academy.
