The City of Delray Beach is very proud to announce that it has received the 2009 Voice of the People Award for Transformation for our excellent community survey rating within our City Police Services and Overall City Services. The City was selected by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), which is the leading professional and educational organization for local government professionals worldwide, for this distinguished honor based on results from the City’s 2008 Annual Citizen Survey. This Survey was completed by an independent, third party, the National Research Center, Inc. (NRC), which is the nation’s leading survey research firm for local government.
Only a select number of communities throughout the United States are awarded the Voice of the People Award for Transformation by ICMA. To earn this award, the City of Delray Beach, in 2008, rated significantly higher for service delivery for Police and Overall City Services above their most recent (2007) survey. In addition, the City possessed higher improvement ratings for these service categories when compared to all other comparable United States jurisdictions in 2008.
Since 2007, Delray Beach has conducted citizen surveys to measure service performance, assess community needs and provide information for strategic planning. The valuable feedback that is received through an independent, third party from Delray Beach citizens provides the City Commission and staff with direction on annual budgets, projects, programs and goals and objectives setting. In addition, it also provides our residents with a voice in affecting their local government -- even when they cannot attend public events and/or Commission Meetings to be heard on an issue.
