City Manager David T. Harden presents the "2010 State of the City", an in-depth look at the City's vision, accomplishments and future plans. In May 2009, the City Commission, City Manager David T. Harden and City staff met with residents at the Citizen Summit to discuss strategic planning and goals for the City of Delray Beach.

The United Way of Palm Beach County’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program provides free income tax preparation to local individuals or families with annual household incomes of $49,000 or less. This free tax service will be offered throughout the 2009 tax filing season until April 14, 2010, at Pompey Park and the Neighborhood Resource Center.

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) modified emergency water restrictions to 2 days per week watering of residential and business property effective April 18, 2008. Street addresses determine the permitted watering days.

The City’s 2009 Annual Citizen Survey has recently been completed and results are now available online. The survey includes responses on various categories including Community Quality, Environmental Sustainability, Public Safety, Public Trust and Community Inclusiveness.

The City Commission approved a fee reduction of more than 2% for residential garbage collection rates. In addition, the new water rates will more equitably distribute costs among customers with high volume users paying more and low volume users getting rewarded (or paying less on a monthly basis) for conserving.

The City has implemented a number of changes to meet the challenges of the economic times while maintaining quality services for our residents. These include revised meter parking fees and new parking garage fees.

To ensure that the City’s drinking water remains safe and compliant with all State and Federal water quality requirements, the City is required to implement preventive measures that are safe and approved by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). As a result, the City is preparing for its semi-annual water distribution line enhanced disinfection program which will begin on Monday, April 5, 2010 and continue through Monday, May 3, 2010.

The City of Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department has boat storage spaces available on the north end of the beach for sixty (60) sailboats

The year long evaluation of the US 1 Safety Modification between SE 10th Street and George Bush Blvd is now complete. The City Commission adopted the FY 2010 Millage Rate and Budget on Tuesday, September 22, 2009.

The City is asking residents and local businesses to help stop the spread of graffiti.

Delray Beach designates 6 areas of the City that Waste Management services every week. The City contracts a private company, Waste Management, for all collection services. The Code Enforcement Division Administrator acts as contract administrator to ensure waste removal services are in accordance with contract requirements.

The City of Delray Beach is seeking volunteers as a means of promoting citizen involvement and providing the best possible service to the community. By encouraging volunteers to share the responsibility of meeting citizens' needs, the quality of life in the community can be enriched.

The City of Delray Beach has recently created a "Grant Team" to identify and apply for Federal Economic Stimulus funding that was recently approved and may be available to the City.

The City and Chamber of Commerce believe that there is a demonstrated need for office space in Downtown Delray Beach. In an effort to promote and enhance office development within the City’s Downtown core, various incentives have been recently passed by the City Commission.

Effective June 26, 2009, the multi-space beach area parking meter system will be converted to a “Pay-N-Display” system. Beach parking customers will be able to park their vehicle and pay for parking at one of the fourteen (14) “pay stations” that will be located within the surrounding beach parking lots on the west side of Ocean Boulevard (SR A1A).

The Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) provides assistance for the redevelopment of abandoned and foreclosed homes and residential properties in order that such properties are returned to productive use or made available for redevelopment purposes.

The City of Delray Beach is committed to supporting the emergency relief efforts for the major earthquake that shook the island of Haiti. Nine (9) drop off locations have been established around the City to collect food, water and basic supplies to assist the Western Hemisphere's poorest nation.

On June 16th Delray Beach Mayor Nelson S. McDuffie proclaimed July 2009 as Parks and Recreation Month in Delray Beach, Florida.

The City of Delray Beach has recently been designated a “Playful City USA” community. Only 93 communities across the nation have received this distinguished honor.

Delray Municipal Beach and Atlantic Dunes Park are lifeguard supervised from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, 365 days per year.
