Rapel_0_180x180The Delray Beach Fire Rescue Technical Rescue team is composed of numerous members specially trained in Rope Rescue and Confined Space Rescue. This training consists of 80-120 hours that prepares these firefighters for low-frequency, highly dangerous calls for both the victims needing rescued and the rescuers. Continued training is conducted to keep these firefighters up on their skills to be ready to respond when called to action.

Rapel 3_0_180x180Rope Rescue is made up of systems of rope and hardware used to make high angle rescues in special rescue situations. These rescue techniques can be used to rescue anyone in need of rescue out of reach of a ladder truck or at an angle making normal rescue techniques to difficult to perform. Our team is trained in rescue techniques including: patient packaging, rappelling, ascending, pick-offs, haul systems, lowering systems, and belays.

Confined Space Rescue consists of many techniques used in rope rescue but are applied to situations that have limited entry/egress and is not designed for continuous occupancy. Confined spaces include, but are not limited to underground vaults, tanks, storage bins, manholes, pits, silos, process vessels, and pipelines. Confined Space Rescue adds an added danger of having the potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere. Due to this extra hazard our Hazmat Team, usually made up of members on our Technical Rescue Team, works to mitigate any hazards and to make sure that the confined space that is about to be entered is safe.
