Chief of Police Jeffrey Goldman began his career with the City of Delray Beach Police Department in 1989. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2000, Lieutenant in 2005, Captain in 2007, Assistant Chief in 2011, and became the 15th Delray Beach Chief of Police in September 2014.
 
Chief Goldman earned his Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University. Chief Goldman is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (241st Session), and the Senior Management Institute for Police, Police Executive Research Forum (36th Session).

Assistant Chief Javaro Sims was born in Boynton Beach. Assistant Chief Sims is a graduate of Florida A&M University and Lynn University where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. He qualified for the 1980 and 1984 Olympic trials, which allowed him to play in the CFL (Canadian Professional Football).  After college, he worked as a teacher for four years. During his fourth year, he applied to the Delray Beach Police Department and was hired in 1992. Assistant Chief Sims has attended Future Law Enforcement Executives, Future Police Chiefs, Senior Management Institute for Police Executive Senior Management course, Southern Police Institute (University of Louisville) and the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, Session 255.

Assistant Chief Maria Olsen was born and raised in West Palm Beach. Mary, as she is known, attended Cardinal Newman High School and received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Palm Beach State College. She started her law enforcement career in September 1982, as a Police Cadet with the West Palm Beach Police Department and in October of 1984, became a Police Officer. Assistant Chief Olsen worked in several areas of the Department, including Patrol, Organized Crime, Criminal Investigations, and Community Policing. She rose through the ranks and subsequently retired in July 2014 as the Assistant Chief of Police assigned to the Operations Bureau.

Captain Mitchell is a twenty-nine year police veteran, twenty-five of which have been with the Delray Beach Police Department.  Captain Mitchell is a graduate of Barry University, earning a Master’s degree in Human Resource Development and Administration, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Administration. Captain Mitchell is also a graduate of Senior Management Institute for Police and the University of Louisville's Command Officers Development Course.

Captain John Battiloro began his career with the Delray beach Police department in 1989. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1996, Lieutenant in 2006, and Captain in 2012. Captain Battiloro earned his Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University. His professional affiliations include the Palm Beach County Chiefs of Police Association.

Captain Michael A. Coleman joined the Delray Beach Police Department in 1994 after serving seven years in the United States Army, where he earned a medal for valor during the Gulf War Campaign.    He advanced through the ranks, gaining firsthand knowledge of the importance of each position.  Through continuous learning, he acquired knowledge and strong leadership qualities to better serve the citizens of Delray Beach.  He obtained a Master’s Degree in Leadership at Kaplan University and attended the Executive Leadership course at Nova University, Boston University’s Senior Management Institute for Police and the Southern Police Institute Graduate Program at the University of Louisville.

Captain John Palermo has proudly served the City of Delray Beach for 25 years as a police officer and is currently the Commander of the Investigative Division.  He has had a very diverse career that includes having worked in the Community Patrol Division, Street Narcotics Unit, Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Unit, West Atlantic Avenue Task Force, and Internal Affairs.  He was a member of the SWAT Team for 18 years; starting as an operator and working his way up to SWAT Commander.  Captain Palermo is a certified Firearm Instructor and Officer Survival Instructor for the Department.
